Roghunath cooked the best ussal bhaji ever
treats for
the young famished after sweaty games of cricket
or given the season
football and even koino-bhal
played with gusto on the red mud fields of Moira.

At times there was bhatat bhaji

a mix of the two, sheer adulterated manna

simple man

whiling days at his dukon
he took special orders
for chicken xacuttis; they were unexceptional

Nothing else he mixed, cooked
matched
his renowned piece de resistance
he swore it was just a judicious pinch
of cinnamon and clove complementing
the ambrosia that was Roghunath's bhaji.
